Adnan Z. Amin, director-general International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), gave an interview in CNN released on 2nd November 2012. IRENA aims at making a global impact in renewable energy by maintaining a clear and independent position, providing a range of reliable and well-understood services that complement those already offered by the renewable energy community and gather existing, but scattered, activities around a central hub. Adnan Z. Amin points out the need of Abu Dhabi to achieve the target of 7% of renewables resources in energy mix towards the ultimate goal of sustainability. By listing examples of India, China and Brazil, which are countries with enormous investments in renewable energy resources, wants to make clear that the future “belongs” to the renewable energy resources as the share of renewables rise rapidly and moreover oil prices remain at high levels. In conclusion he points out that in addition with shale gas, renewable resources are the most rational option towards energy security and sustainability.
