World’s largest marine boat powered exclusively by energy from the sun shatters another record.
A year after the world tour, in which the solar boat covered the longest distance ever, the Turanor PlanetSolar broke a few days ago his own transatlantic record. The crew bested the boat’s previous transatlantic speed record, set in 2010, by 4 days, 6 hours and 38 minutes.
The journey was not easy. The Swiss initiators of the PlanetSolar admit that during the journey the crew wase particularly attentive to the issue of energy consumption in order to maintain a constant speed and achieve better time than the 26 hours that had taken the previous transatlantic voyage in 2010.
The PlanetSolar consists of two electric engines and draw power from photovoltaic panels, which cover an area of 537 square meters. The average speed is 10 km / h (5.3 knots), but can exceed 25 km.
