The new UN Agenda for Sustainable Development is adopted today in New York. It represents a true landmark achievement uniting the whole world around 17 common goals for a more sustainable future. The EU was instrumental to reach an ambitious outcome.
Brussels, Copenhagen, 5 June 2013 – On the occasion of World Environment Day, the UN and the Nordic Council of Ministers launch a Nordic-Baltic Ad Competition to support the fight against food waste.
World Environment Day is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. World Environment Day activities take place all year round and climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere.
WED celebrations began in 1972 and have grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action. Through WED, the UN Environment Programme is able to personalize environmental issues and enable everyone to realize not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development.
