Negawatts instead of … Megawatts

wThe negawatt is a theoretical unit of power saved, its name stems from a newspaper typo that Amory Lovins, the founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute and a dedicated energy efficiency supporter, decided to adopt for a 1989 keynote address at the Green Energy Conference in Montreal. Negawatts could reduce the pressure on supply infrastructure while maintaining adequate energy services for an improving quality of life. There, he painted a picture of a more energy-efficient world, saying, “Imagine being able to save half the electricity for free and still get the same or better services!”

EU Sustainable Energy Week 2013

At 2012, 18 to 22 June, more than 30,000 participants have discussed energy efficiency and renewable energy in all their forms during the 2012 edition of EU Sustainable Energy Week. At 2013 the Sustainable Energy Week will take place from 24 to 28 June. 

EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is an initiative of the European Commission that first took place in 2006 with hundreds of organisations and individuals participating each year. Through bottom-up efforts, organisers of EUSEW Energy Days, events and activities connect directly with citizens and energy stakeholders at local, regional and national levels. The combined results of EUSEW efforts are helping Europe reach its energy goals.

Are you ready for energy efficient Christmas?

A walk by the streets of the town will make you realize that everyday more and more people are getting ready for Christmas! Let’s see in which ways we can transform this time of the year into a more energy efficient period. 

The lighting

This year instead of incandescent lights choose to use LED lights. In this way, you will save up to 90% electricity! This does not mean that will have to make your house look like a circus by putting up a lot of lights, less can be more. Moreover, remember to turn off lights when you are not home or during the night when you are asleep.
